Stop fear from holding you back from freedom in your life and finances
A recent headline caught my attention: ‘The recession is canceled’.
It led me to wonder if we were ever in a recession to start with, or if we’ve been living in a fear-first economy. One where fear is the star of the show, the leader of the pack. And where fear leads, fear follows; creating a perpetual loop of fear-based thinking, fear-based leading, and fear-based decision making.
Note: this isn’t to offer financial advice or economic forecasting, but rather to shift focus back to you and your wellbeing.
So what is a fear-based economy? It’s one filled with lack.
We cannot create abundance from lack. We cannot create opportunity from scarcity. We cannot create faith when we are stuck in fear.
When you live in fear you are focused on the worst case scenario, summoning it to life purely by giving it more attention than anything. What we focus on grows. Fear breeds fear.
You are the creator of your economy, so why are we all running around scared?
What if, at a micro level, you put your time and attention towards possibility and prosperity? What would that look like? Is it possible you could inspire and lead others to follow? When you live in fear you can’t live in faith. When you live in fear you can’t lead from generosity, optimism, and abundance.
As a coach, I work with clients seeking transformation; whether from a desire, ability, need, or commitment to transformation; in other words, experiencing change in any area of their life; business, career, and finances included. Conversations vary from leadership development to salary negotiation, from business optimization to sales strategy, from finding purpose to making profit. Whether an individual or team is looking to increase personal wealth, drive sales, or increase the bottom line, in these circumstances the desired outcomes remain the same: more money. The gravy train is cruising when we’re in alignment, when we’re showing up and contributing from a place of authenticity and faith - faith in what’s possible, in a positive outcome.
The challenge is there is always noise. “The situation that were in”... “The times we’re in”... “These times of uncertainty”... There is always external chatter, opinions, and advice surrounding us with anecdotes and assumptions that permeate into our thoughts and settle in. The tone of this dialogue is heavy with fear and it hangs in the air long after it’s gone.
Fear leads to doubt.
Fear leads to indecision. Fear leads to falling victim to circumstances and giving away your agency.
Fear based thinking leads to short term thinking.
It leads us back to transactional and administrative tasks, rather than to conversations that are going to lead to breakthrough business ideas and impactful innovation.
Fear based leading guides us to dead ends.
We create expectations in reaction to our circumstances rather than agreements that allow for creativity and collaboration.
Fear can’t be trusted.
It puts us into limbo and out of action. It disconnects us from the present moment and sends us into a downward spiral of anxiety and worry.
How, then, do we step out of fear and into faith?
Out of being a victim and into our agency? Out of purgatory and into possibility?
Responsibility.
We take responsibility to restore choice.
And when we make a new choice and take action, we restore freedom.
Taking responsibility and ownership over our choices and our actions moves us past fear and into possibility. Exploring our choices removes the veil of the victim and puts us back into the driver seat. Choice exists between either/or, right/wrong, black/white. Choice is all the colours in the middle. To step away from fear and into choice, ask yourself:
‘What is the next best step?’
Quiet the noise, eliminate the distractions, and avoid the advice. Instead, focus on the choice that is in alignment with and in service of your higher self, your next level, who are you being that is creating the life, career, goals, you want.
Choose faith over fear.
Choose action over limbo.
Choose to create your economy over being a victim of it.
