When you feel like the world is against you, how do you keep going?

When the world is spelling doom and gloom, how do you move forward?

A quick look at the headlines of any major news outlet can send you spiraling. There appears to be no lack of bad news especially as it pertains to the economy and as a result, employment across industries. It begs for an answer to the question:

How do you continue to show up to work and contribute, when you’re unsure of whether or not you’ll have a job the next day?

The hard truth:

Nothing is guaranteed. Including your job.

Even when there isn’t news of layoffs and cuts, your job, your company, your title, your role, are all external factors outside of your control. When we get caught up in the ifs, ands, and buts, we are letting fear in. We are letting fear win.

The real danger is when we let the fear and uncertainty created by the news and gossip seep into our lives. Because it inevitably penetrates into all of it; into how we are living and how we are being in the world.

And for those who need the reminder: your life is made up of more than just your work; it also includes your home, finances, health, and wellbeing.

When we live a life focused on the external, we choose to allow our circumstances to own us, to control us.

The irony is, we think we are the ones in control. When we live in stress, anxiety, and fear, we subsequently take action from that place and further perpetuate those emotions to show up and manifest themselves in every aspect of how we are living. It cripples us from making decisions, from moving forward, from living our lives.

So, how do you continue to move forward with your life when you feel like the world is dragging you down?

Stop focusing on what is happening to you;

Start focusing on what is happening for you.

This is not to suggest you ignore your current reality, but rather to stay grounded in the here and now. To operate and create from the present moment.

When you live in fear, it is because you are choosing to.

So, when the world is spelling doom and gloom, how do you keep going?

Choose something else.

Choose growth.

Choose possibility.

Choose progression.

Throw out the assumptions, and focus on what is true:

Who are you?

Who are you choosing to be?

Belief is an antidote to fear.

Living in fear is a choice. Living in belief, trust, faith, is a choice.

What do you choose to believe in?

(Hint: it’s you.)
